From 4 September 2026, an eligible person holding a valid work permit may study in a program of six months or less without a study permit. The permission ends when the work permit ends or the public policy stops applying.
Answer the practical question first
Immigration files are read as a sequence. The Canada evidence should agree with the application form, passport history, employer or school records and any answer already given to an authority.
This article addresses a practical task and is not case advice. Its purpose is to show what to check first, where a reasonable person can misread the position and which evidence should remain after the task is closed.
Checks before filing or action
Before submission, work backwards from the intended result and confirm that each item supports it.
- Confirm the work permit is valid for the whole intended study period.
- Check that the course or program does not exceed six months.
- Read any work-permit conditions that still restrict study or occupation.
- Use a study permit for longer full-time study where required.
Why cases stall here
This measure does not create a new route to enter Canada and does not extend the work permit. A school admission letter cannot keep someone in status after the permit expires.
Run one final reverse check
Keep the work permit, program dates, enrolment evidence and a copy of the official public-policy page used for the decision.
Check the result shown by the authority, not only the screenshot of your own submission. Record any difference as an open item.
