The initial Top Talent Pass can give room to explore Hong Kong without a job offer in hand. An extension is a different review: the file needs to show what the applicant has actually been doing.

Who needs to deal with this

Immigration files are read as a sequence. The Hong Kong evidence should agree with the application form, passport history, employer or school records and any answer already given to an authority.

A note saying “done” tells the next case owner very little. The file should at least identify who was in scope, which version was used, when the action was taken and what the authority returned.

A working checklist

These four points can sit directly in the working paper, each tied to a filename or confirmation number.

  • Confirm the current limit of stay and start the review well before expiry.
  • Collect employment, income, tax or business-operation evidence that fits the case.
  • Explain periods without work or material changes in activity.
  • Prepare dependant evidence and travel plans on the same timeline.

Do not lose this distinction

A company registration certificate by itself does not show that a business is operating. Contracts, payments, staffing and tax records should support the activity described.

What should survive a handover

Maintain a monthly activity file rather than rebuilding two years of evidence near expiry. Include contracts, payroll or invoices, bank records, tax documents and a short chronology.

The handover note can be short, but it should name open items, deadlines and owners. The next case owner should not have to infer progress from email.
